Send for a former East Kilbride lawyer

At the end of last month we reported that Lord Bonomy was appointed as a judge at the War Crimes Tribunal in the preparations for the trial of Radovan Karadzic.  The story was widely reported in the Scottish media – although the emphasis was not necessarily what might have been expected.

The leading source of breaking news, Teletext, reported the appointment as follows:

"A former East Kilbride solicitor is to oversee preparations for the trial of Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic.

"Lord Bonomy, 62, began his legal career in 1968 as an apprentice solicitor with East Kilbride town council."

Other aspects of Lord Bonomy's career including his earlier appointment to the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, and his report into High Court practice and procedure for some reason did not warrant comment.
