(345) MINORITY LANGUAGES POLICY CRITICISED
With the introduction of a Gaelic Language Bill in the Scottish Parliament imminent (see No 270), the UK Government has been criticised by a Council of Europe Committeee of Experts looking at implementation of the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages, which the UK ratified in 2001 (see No 123). Taking Gaelic to be seriously endangered, the Committee recommends that the Government make primary and secondary education in Scottish Gaelic generally available in the areas where the language is used”
