(665) CHALLENGING UK RESERVATIONS: BROADCASTING IN SCOTLAND
SNP First Minister Alex Salmond opened up his government’s first challenge to the reservations of legislative competence laid down for the Scottish Parliament in the Scotland Act 1998 when on 8 August 2007 he announced the establishment of a commission to investigate Scottish broadcasting. The reservation of broadcasting to Westminster was a matter of some controversy during the parliamentary passage of the Scotland Bill in 1997-98.
