(755) NAKED RAMBLING ONCE MORE
The Naked Rambler’s six unclad steps in Edinburgh’s Cowgate on 18 January 2008 (see No 733) cost him his thirteenth breach of the peace conviction and a further four-month sentence on 26 February. Sheriff Raymond McMenamin refused to allow Mr Gough to appear naked in his Edinburgh court, and the case was heard in the police cells below.
The search for some alternative way of dealing with Mr Gough’s persistent nudity encountered another obstacle when the protests of the community of Barra, led by our clansman Canon Angus MacQueen, stopped a projected VisitScotland tourism commercial about the island’s undoubted charms which also rather improbably featured naked male surfers at Traigh Mhor (the beach airport).
