(782) DEATH OF LORD MACFADYEN
Scots Law News notes with sadness the death of Lord Macfadyen on 11 April 2008, aged just 62. He had been ill for some time. A Glasgow law graduate, Donald Macfadyen was appointed a Court of Session judge in 1995 and was apparently rated the best of the Parliament House judiciary by counsel in a recent poll (see http://www.firmmagazine.com/members/feature.php?id=91). Certainly he gave many excellent opinions in commercial and private law matters, and he was moreover a very nice man, as he showed when chairing a stimulating session at the 2007 World Congress of Mixed Jurisdiction Jurists in Edinburgh. He was also chairman of the Cockburn Association, active in the conservation of Edinburgh’s architectural heritage. An obituary can be found in The Scotsman for 18 April 2008.
