LYON PLAYS TRUMP CARD ON ARMS
Donald Trump’s difficulties with his golf project at the Menie estate in Aberdeenshire continued when the Lyon Court announced on 15 February 2008 that its procurator fiscal (George Way of Plean SSC) was investigating the use of the Trump coat of arms on promotional material and clothing associated with the bid. Arms cannot be used in Scotland unless registered with Lyon. Mr Trump’s spokesperson revealed that registration was being sought. The coat of arms features lions rampant with a silver shield but heraldry buffs think it lacks authenticity and meaning, and is merely someone’s idea of what a coat of arms should look like: the fact that the name Trump” appears at the foot rather than a Latin motto is also problematic.
