(325)  FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION IN THE DUGOUT

 

Craig Levein, manager of Heart of Midlothian FC, and the Scottish Football Association settled their differences (for which see No 253) in the door of the Court of Session on 2 March 2004.  Levein apologised for his remarks about referee Dougie McDonald, his club paid a fine of £1,000, and the SFA accepted that [Levein’s] comments were sparked as a result of Mr Levein’s belief that certain protocols at the match had not been properly followed.  These protocols have now been clarified.”  The breach of protocol at the match appears to have been a half-time visit to the referee’s room at the match in question by Kilmarnock manager Jim Jefferies
