It may have been a wet summer for most of us in Scotland, but the occupants of the Crown Office have been getting a little hot none the less.  The fierce criticism of them by Professor Robert Black has already been noted in Scots Law News (above, No 658).  On 30 July 2007 the Scotsman columnist and former judge (and Lord Advocate), Lord McCluskey, was prompted to return to the question of the political independence of the Lord Advocate (see previously No 600) by the handing-over to the English prosecuting authorities of the men arrested in connection with the terrorist incident at Glasgow Airport on 3 July (see No 654).  This extraordinary procedure
