At a public meeting in the village of Glenelg on 5 April 2004 it was agreed that a community purchase of the Glenelg-Kylerhea ferry (one of only two sea-borne routes from the mainland to the Isle of Skye, the other being Mallaig-Armadale) should be attempted. The present owner of the ferry had previously indicated that it was for sale and that he would give the Glenelg community first refusal (see No 334).
