SHERIDAN CASE LATEST
The Scotsman newspaper for 15 August 2006 reports that formal complaints have been made to the Faculty of Advocates about the fateful question put by Graeme Henderson, junior counsel for Mr Sheridan, to witness Anne Colvin, triggering Mr Sheridan’s sacking of the advocate and his senior, Richard Keen QC on day 10 of the proof. Mr Henderson had suggested to Ms Colvin that she had committed a criminal offence, an allegation wholly without foundation. The Scotsman says that not only has Mrs Colvin complained, but so has the judge, Lord Turnbull. The Faculty of Advocates Code of Conduct, available at http://www.advocates.org.uk/downloads/codeofconduct.pdf, says that an advocate may not put to a witness any question suggesting that the witness has been guilty of a crime
