On 1 July 2007 Ian Latimer, Chief Constable of Northern Constabulary since September 2001, was caught by means of traffic camera driving his police Range Rover at 72 mph on a stretch of the A9 in Easter Ross where the speed limit was 60 mph. Mr Latimer, notified of impending prosecution on 31 July, admitted that he had miscalculated” his speed “in daylight on a clear open stretch of road”. He accepted responsibility
